Wrongful Death of Teen Likely Caused By Texting While Driving | Seattle Car Accident Lawyer
Car accidents are devastating to those involved. When a car accident results in a death, the devastation can reach beyond those involved. When the car accident causes fatal injuries to a young person still in high school the devastation reaches into the whole community. Last month in Grand Rapids, Michigan an 18-year-old high school student was killed in a car accident. Authorities are now saying that the car accident was probably caused by texting while driving. The driver, Eric Helm, drove his vehicle into oncoming traffic and crashed head on with a pickup truck. Investigation showed that Helm was sending text messages back and forth with his girlfriend in the moments leadingup to the crash. “I feel pretty confident, with the texting back and forth, it distracted him enough to not pay attention and not negotiate the curve,” Ottawa County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Austin said. We will wish the best for the family and friends of Eric Helm during this very difficult time. It is sad and unfortunate any time that a life is lost in a car accident. We hate to see a young teenager lose his life because of the texting while driving. Deaths like this are preventable. Texting while driving is very dangerous and we all need to learn and spread this message to keep our roads safe. Please never text and drive. This includes reading and sending texts.
