I know how integrated cell phones are in our lives and how for many of us, functioning with-out them seems nearly impossible. Before cell phones became so widespread everybody had a little black book filled with phone numbers, addresses, birthdays and anniversaries. Impor-tant phone numbers were dedicated to mem-ory and pay phones were available for emer-gencies. Now, if a cell phone is damaged, a pay phone is rendered useless because the only phone number lodged in the memory bank is one’s own.

These crash dummies have become very advanced in recent years, not only simu-lating the average humans body in weight, size and structure, but also recording the way the body reacts and behaves in an accident.

Whiplash is a common injury which plagues millions of peo-ple every year. As whiplash is largely caused by a force snap-ping the head forwards and backwards it is no shock that auto accidents are the leading cause of whiplash injuries. In fact, 1 in 5 people involved in a rear-end collision will develop some level of whiplash. Though the majority of whiplash vic-tims recover from their injuries within a few months, 25% are forced to live with the pain for the rest of their lives.

As we prepare for winter, experts are warning that this year may be the worst winter Washington has experienced in 55 years. This winter will be a La Nina winter, which gener-ally brings colder, wetter and windier weather. La Nina is caused by unusu-ally cold ocean tempera-tures which trigger an in-creased production in clouds leading to stormy weather. La Nina doesn’t only mean increased snowfall, but more rain, just like the rainfall that flooded Chehalis, shutting down Interstate 5 in Decem-ber of 2007. Here are a few tips to help prepare you for the stormy winter that lies ahead.

Halloween is one of America’s favorite holidays- falling only behind Christmas in the hearts of millions. Many treasure the holiday for the costumes, par-ties and the free candy. As the goblins and ghouls hit the streets, however, they are met with increased danger. In fact, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that pedes-trian accidents are four times as likely on October 31st. All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) be-came popular in the 70’s and remain a rite of passage for some families. As soon as a child gets to a certain age they receive their first quad or dirt bike re-placing the bicycle the child re-ceived when they turned three. Though these are popular rec-reational vehicles and highly useful in rural areas and on farms they pose a grave hazard particularly when combined with highways which they are ill-equipped to handle. Let’s face it, sitting in a car for a long period of time is not the most comfortable thing in the world. Sometimes you want to rest, stretch out as far as possible, or even take a relaxing nap. This usually means that you are reclining your passenger seat in order to get as comfy as you can while confined in your vehicle. While many of us do this, I’m sure a lot of us are unaware that doing so puts you at much greater risk to be seriously or fatally injured if involved in a car accident.
