How long will it take to settle my claim?

This is one of the most common questions I get. The answer is that there is no way to tell you. Being in a hurry to get money, or rushing to settle, only benefits the insurance company because they know they can get away with paying you less. The only way to get what is fair is to have the patience to go through the process.

There is a Statute of Limitations that sets a strict time period in which a lawsuit must be filed, but there is no set time for when claims must be settled. I’ve had cases that finish quickly and I’ve had cases that take years. Unfortunately much of it depends on whether the insurance company is going to be reasonable (usually they aren’t).
