Involved In Hit-and-Run, But Got The Other Driver’s License Plate Information

« Back to Frequently Asked Questions

I was involved in a hit and run two days ago. After pursing the other driver for ten blocks my car stopped running from the damage the other car caused me in the accident. I did manage to get their license plate information. I have made a police report and an insurance claim.

Can I sue for anything besides the amount of my deductible? I am pretty sore, as is the passenger that was in my car.

A: If the other driver/car can be identified, then you will probably have a claim against them that would include everything you could claim had they stopped, i.e. damage to your property, medical bills, and pain and suffering. That is way more than your deductible!

Also, if you have underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage with your own insurance carrier you should bring a claim with them as well.

There are other types of insurance coverage which you may be entitled to with your own insurance as well. I would recommend that you get the medical treatment you need to treat your injuries and speak to an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
