Everett Washington Wrongful Death While Turning LeftEverett, Washington – A man in his 20s was killed in a wrongful death auto accident. At 6:15 p.m. Friday evening the young man was attempting to turn left into a parking lot in the 9000 block of Evergreen Way. An Acura traveling northbound, struck the young man’s vehicle, killing the driver before paramedics could arrive on the scene. The driver of the Acura and his passengers did not suffer any life threatening injures. Everett Police Department’s Sgt. Robert Goetz stated that initial indication suggests the Acura may have been speeding, however, there are no indications alcohol was a factor. The victim’s name has not been released. Sadly, such collisions occur all to often during periods of heavy traffic or low visibility. Whenever operating a vehicle be wary of all possible hazards that may be entering or leaving the roadway. Drivers should take extra care during twilight hours when the sun is just above the horizon thereby limiting your vision. During the summer, driving during the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. can be especially hazardous. Furthermore, whenever you are making a turn in front of a vehicle, you should always wait unless you are absolutely positive that you can safely make the turn with a comfortable margin to spare. If you see a vehicle coming and are unable to determine how fast it is going, and whether or not you can make it, it is always safer to just wait. In this case, it is difficult to determine from the facts known whose fault the accident may be. It is likely that both drivers bear some liability for the accident. The driver that turned left should have yielded if he saw the oncoming vehicle, and the oncoming driver should have been traveling at a safe speed.
